Tenor Bryan Thomas Griffin has been a member of the full-time chorus at the Metropolitan Opera in New York for the past 13 years. As a chorister, Mr. Griffin works alongside the finest singers, conductors, and directors in the world. In 2023 he made his Metropolitan Opera solo debut as Parpignol in La Boheme. Mr. Griffin has appeared on three Grammy® award-winning recordings with the company.
Prior to joining the Met, Mr. Griffin appeared as a principal soloist with companies all over the world. At the Lyric Opera of Chicago, he performed as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Fenton in Falstaff, Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette, and made his company debut as Edmondo in Manon Lescaut opposite Vladimir Galouzine and Karita Mattila. Other operatic highlights include performing as Malcolm in Macbeth with the Glyndebourne Festival, Rodolfo in La Boheme with Opera North, Faust in Faust with Grand Rapids Opera, and Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore with Toledo Opera.
Internationally, Mr. Griffin has performed with L’Opéra de Montreal, Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, National Orchestra of Costa Rica and the Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
On the concert stage Mr. Griffin has performed as a soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra, Nashville Symphony, Grant Park Music Festival, New Jersey Symphony, and many others in repertoire that includes Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Rachmaninov’s The Bells.
He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School where he studied with the legendary voice teacher, Marlena Malas. At the school, he performed the lead roles of Sam in Street Scene, and Jo, the Loiterer in The Mother of Us All. He has held apprenticeships with the Santa Fe Opera, Florida Grand Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Mr. Griffin has held private teaching positions with the Hartt school community division and at Avon Old Farms in Connecticut. He has taught people of all ages and abilities in a wide variety of styles. He looks forward to sharing his knowledge and passion for music with the next generation of professionals, artists-in-training and hobbyists alike.
